Illustrating MMM submissions for Auckland City Libraries' Speak Auckland event

Overview.

This project is a continuation of the Museum of Meaningful Moments (MMM) that started in 2020. Bianca and Andrea created illustrations and video assets for MMM submissions from people in the community.

In this project, Bianca and Andrea created components that continued to build the Museum of Meaningful Moments. The Auckland City community were given the opportunity to contribute to the museum by sharing their stories and experiences. This was done through different platforms of workshops, the MMM Post Box and Tell-A-Phone booth at the Central City Library ‘Speak Auckland’ event in June 2021.

Bianca and Andrea were tasked to create illustrations for over 60 submissions. They created concept ideas for each submission, dividing the workload amongst them. From there, they chose the best concept that reflected the moment shared and the stories told by the people and created illustrations and gif-like animations based on some key interesting submissions. They produced final illustrations, loosely following the style of Janette’s MMM animation short.

Following the storyboard provided by the team, both Bianca and Andrea created assets for the DRS Festival of Emergence 2021 MMM prompt release video. These included a dynamic and fun 30-second countdown and animations to accompany instructions and information about MMM.

“Throughout the internship, I encountered successes and challenges. I was thankful to be working alongside Andrea and the Good Health Design team as they were very supportive, encouraging and were helpful whenever I needed help or had questions. During the project, we were able to make peoples submissions come to life through illustrations and animations, and it was such a great and insightful experience and I’ve learnt a lot about being a designer and about myself. I enjoyed working on this project and I am very thankful to have been given this opportunity."

“Throughout my time with Good Health, working in a friendly and comfortable environment was an amazing experience. With the guidance from the team of Good Health, Bianca and I were able to overcome any issues that arose, which made each step of the way possible to achieve. The time spent on the project, helped me gain a lot of knowledge that assisted in expanding my skills. I am thankful for the opportunity and to work on a project that involves the community. The project was enjoyable which was all because of the people of Good Health.”
